Not for most programs. Most program areas typically don't require essays, reference letters or personal statements as part of the application. However, some programs do ask for a supplemental application to get to know you beyond your grades. Applications typically open in late September. You should apply as early as possible in the fall of your final year of high school. Some programs have limited space or supplemental applications, and applying early gives you more time to complete next steps, like submitting documents or supplementary applications. Review all application deadlines.

If English isn’t your first language, you may need to provide proof of English proficiency, unless you qualify for an exemption. There are several ways to meet this requirement, depending on your background and studies. See our English language requirements.

If you’ve taken Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses in high school, you may be eligible for transfer credit. Credits are assessed after admission, after we receive your official final results directly from the examining board. Transfer credit policies vary by faculty and campus. Your application will be assessed based on the curriculum you studied, not your citizenship. If you completed high school outside of Canada, we'll review your application using the relevant admission requirements (for example, A-Levels or a U.S. diploma). Your Canadian citizenship may affect things like tuition or required documents, but it won't change how you apply or how your application is reviewed.
