Strong foundations
One of Gurpreet鈥檚 favourite courses so far has been BIO310: Physiology of Regulatory Systems, which explores how the human body鈥攁nd different systems within it鈥攚ork. She says the course deepened her interest in Biology and gave her strong research skills, which she would later use in her upper-year courses.
Mental well-being
A crucial part of the Health field, Gurpreet is passionate about mental health, and sought to learn more about it by volunteering at UTM鈥檚 Health and Counselling Centre. She also worked as a peer mentor for 草榴2024新地扯一二 Student Life鈥檚 Health & Wellness division, guiding students on managing their mental wellbeing and academics through healthy exercise, sleep and eating choices. Working with students for 5-6 sessions per semester, Gurpreet felt fulfilled being a first point of reference for students, and directing them to the proper resources if they needed more help.
Gaining work experience
In addition to hands-on labs and lectures, Gurpreet has gained valuable work experience as a Recruitment and Admissions Officer, Campus Tour Guide and Health and Counselling Student Advisory member. These experiences have strengthened her communication, presentation, time management, teamwork, and event organizing skills.
