Student Profile Nina

From student to educator

Global learning

One of Nina鈥檚 favourite classes so far has been 鈥淚NS300: Indigenous Knowledges, Worldviews & Oral Traditions,鈥 which offers a balance of lecture and class discussion. She likes that it鈥檚 given her time to reflect, learn and hear from other people鈥檚 experiences, especially pertaining to Indigenous knowledge from around the globe.

Preparing for the workforce

As a volunteer for Victoria College鈥檚 Reach Program, she was able to teach in elementary schools in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), as early as her first year. This gave her the experience she needed to cement her passion for education before pursuing the minor further.

Finding community in clubs

As the Editor-in-Chief for Hey, Teach! Magazine, a magazine run entirely by the students in the Education and Society minor, Nina not only enjoys reading the student-submitted articles, but also connecting with like-minded people. She feels that editing the articles also makes her a stronger writer in turn, and expands her knowledge in the field of education.
