Business Through a Sustainable Lens

Reflecting back on her Marketing courses, Wei appreciated that she had profs and classes that approached business from a modern lens, tackling current issues like sustainability. In “MGSD40: Principles of Corporate Social Sustainability,” she learned from a professor who had worked on the corporate sustainability team for Tim Horton’s and other big companies. The professor taught the students methods to create a more sustainable corporation and used real-world examples to demonstrate. 

The Co-op Experience 

Dubbed the “co-op campus” ����2024�µس�һ�� Scarborough places a strong emphasis on work experience for students - especially in Wei’s program. The process begins early on, in “MGTA36: Management Communications for Co-op,” a mantagory course that co-op students have to take before their first term to help ensure they’re prepared for their applications and interviews. This course taught her how to remove filler words when she spoke and how to make good presentations in interviews and the workplace. Over the course of her undergrad, Wei held two co-op positions, first working as a Project Manager at RBC - Project Management, and later as a Lead Intake Officer at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). In the former, she learned how to better assert herself and be vocal in her role, especially being a woman in business. In the latter, she gained available customer service skills and learned how to approach difficult situations with grace and levity. 

Since Graduating…

Since she graduated in 2019, Wei has built a robust career in the field of higher education. She first worked in the Academic and Advising Career Centre at UTSC, then briefly stepped away from higher ed to work as a front of house staff for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and later as a Sales Development Coordinator at Stephen Thomas Agency, before returning to ����2024�µس�һ�� full time to work in the Office of Student Recruitment.
